Step into the shadows at the Atlas Coal Mine for Atlas After Dark: Unmentionables—an adults-only nighttime experience exploring the stories we don’t tell on our other tours.

Beneath the proud history of coal, community, and hard work lies another side of the Drumheller Valley: a rougher, darker, and sometimes bittersweet world of bloody labour strikes, violent accidents, gambling, bootlegging, prostitution, and fist-fights fought for sport. These are the stories that were whispered about, swept aside, or simply left out of the history books.

Guided by senior Atlas staff, you’ll explore the seedy underbelly of life in the coal-mining communities—where danger was part of the job, tempers ran high, and people found their own ways to survive, escape, and entertain themselves.

This isn’t a haunted house, and there are no jump-scares. Unmentionables is a candid, thought-provoking journey into the people, places, and events that reveal a more complicated side of the Drumheller Valley’s past.

The evening concludes in the historic Wash House with an intimate fireside chat featuring Bob Moffatt, a genuine fifth-generation coal miner, gifted storyteller, and living connection to the Valley’s coal-mining past. At 90 years old, Bob brings a lifetime of knowledge, memories, and stories that cannot be found in history books. Gather around the fire as he shares his own experiences and reflections, bringing a deeply personal perspective to the stories uncovered throughout the evening.

Gates open for guest check-in at 6:30 p.m.

The Atlas After Dark experience begins promptly at 7:00 p.m. and concludes at approximately 9:00 p.m.

Tour length: Approximately 2 hours

Tour cost: $80 + GST per person

Age restriction: Strictly 18+, no exceptions.

Tour difficulty: Uneven and rough ground throughout; stairs, heights, darkness, and loud noises. If you have a serious fear of heights and/or enclosed spaces, this tour is not for you.

Please note: This tour does not take guests underground.

Guest requirements: Guests must be dressed appropriately for the weather, as this tour will proceed in all weather conditions. Sturdy, fully enclosed footwear is required—no exceptions.

Children and pets are not permitted on the tour. Guests arriving with children and/or pets will forfeit their tickets without refund.

Alcohol and cannabis are strictly prohibited on site.

All sales are final – no refunds.  If the tour is cancelled due to severe weather, a tax receipt will be issued to the ticket holder for full ticket value
