Want to see the Atlas at your own pace? General Admission is for you! This is a self-guided experience around the surface areas of site. We have lots of buildings to see (currently with some modified access due to COVID-19 restrictions) and acres of mining machinery. Learn about coal mining history and our miners through the interpretive panels we have throughout site. Experience Badlands landscapes at their best on our Rail Berm trail. The Atlas is one of the most photogenic historic sites in the nation!
Bonus for 2020: our low visitors numbers means we’ve got lots of wildlife on site! Did you know that East Coulee and the Atlas have the biggest bullsnakes in Alberta?
Visitors normally spend 1-2 hours for General Admission.
Note: We’re a real coal mine…for safety our underground and tipple are only accessible via guided tour. Due to COVID-19 restrictions in 2020, we are not running tours of our underground, tipple and train.
