Want to see the Atlas at your own pace or don’t have time to take one of our tours? Site Admission is for you! This is a self-guided experience around the surface areas of site. We have lots of buildings to see and acres of mining machinery. Learn about coal mining history and our miners through the interpretive panels we have throughout site. Experience Badlands landscapes at their best on our Rail Berm trail. The Atlas is one of the most photogenic historic sites in the nation!

Visitors normally spend 1-2 hours exploring the site with this access option.
Note: We’re a real coal mine…for safety our train, underground and tipple are only accessible via guided tour. Make sure you pre-book your tours; slots fill up very fast!
